| A Big Benefit of Taking the Bus: You Have to Walk to the Bus Stop |
| Montreal residents who go to work via public transit walk an average of 1,250 steps from home to the bus stop or train station and 1,250 steps back in the evening, thus completing 25% of their recommended physical activity for the day, according to a team led by Catherine Morency of the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. The health benefits of this level of activity are an argument in favor of switching from automobile commuting to public transit, the researchers say. |
