The stress of commuting is 4 times greater for women with preschool-age kids than for men with children of that age, according to a team led by Jennifer Roberts of the University of Sheffield in the UK. In general, women tend to be more distressed than men by time wasted getting to and from work, all the more so if errands such as food shopping are added to the women's trips. Women who are unaffected by the daily commute fall into three categories: ( a ) single with no children, ( b ) able to work flexible hours, and (c ) reliant on partners who are responsible for the bulk of child care. |
