| A Few Euros per Day Keeps Drivers Off Roads |
| A daily reward of 3 euros was effective in encouraging drivers to stay off a highway in the Netherlands during rush hour, at least in the short term, say Eran Ben-Elia of the University of the West of England and Dick Ettema of Utrecht University. Under the Spitsmijden ("peak avoidance") program, women were less likely than men to avoid rush hour, possibly because they have constraints such as the need to pick up children at specific times. Once the rewards ceased, participants returned to their previous driving patterns, the researchers say. |
