People Born in Economic Booms Live Longer
Because of lower mortality from heart disease, a person who is born during an economic boom and survives to age 40 lives 10 months longer than an otherwise identical individual born during a recession, according to researchers led by Gerard J. van den Berg of the University of Mannheim in Germany. Their study of records on 6,000 Danes born from 1873 through 1906 shows that a mother's nutrition during the last months of pregnancy is crucial for her child's long-term cardiovascular health.
