The Best Way to Deliver a Pitch
When
more than 160 people were asked to watch, listen to, or read a
transcript of a hiring pitch, those who experienced audio or video
versions judged job candidates to have greater intellect – around a 6 out of a possible score of 10, on average, compared to a rating of 4
for those with written transcripts. They also liked the individuals
more, had a more positive overall impression, and were more interested
in actually hiring them. Writing on HBR.org,
researchers Juliana Schroeder and Nicholas Epley conclude, “When you’re
trying to convey the quality of your mind to your boss, or to a company
that’s considering you for a job, your best ally may be your own
voice.”
