| APRIL 17, 2012 | | Drug Prescriptions Rise for the Young, Fall for the Old | | | New health-care guidelines allowing young people to remain on their parents' insurance until age 26 are the reason behind a 2% rise in prescriptions for young adults in the U.S. between 2010 and 2011, according to a New York Times report on a study by the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics. At the other end of the age scale, prescriptions for patients 65 and older declined by 3.1%, apparently because seniors were rationing their care in the face of rising costs and fixed incomes. | | | Source: Americans Cutting Back on Drugs and Doctor Visits |
