Politicians, Beware the Dissatisfied Homeowner
Homeowners are 15.6% more likely to vote than renters, and dissatisfaction makes homeowners even more likely to cast ballots, according to Matthew J. Holian of San Jose State University. In a study that surveyed residents of a region near San Francisco, Holian found that dissatisfaction doesn't increase likeliness to vote among renters. Researchers believe homeowners vote more because they tend to be less mobile, which means they—and their homes' values—are strongly affected by the quality of government services.
