Lopsided sex ratio spurs entrepreneurship in China . Why ?

Competition for Marriage Partners Spurs Entrepreneurship

In an analysis of Taiwan’s recent history, two researchers found that a lopsided sex ratio, with many more eligible men than women, led to a 30% rise in entrepreneurship among the male population.

The sex ratio among 20-to-24-year-olds reached 152 men for every 100 women after the 1949 influx of defeated Chinese Nationalist soldiers.
Competition for females appears to induce men to become entrepreneurial as a way to accumulate wealth and attract mates, say Simon Chang of the Institute for the Study of Labor in Germany and Xiaobo Zhang of Peking University in China.
