How Young Women Can Move Up the Corporate Ladder !
Young women face specific obstacles when navigating the corporate landscape. While leaders are ultimately responsible for removing those obstacles, there are steps you can take to claim space in your organization.
(1) Advocate for yourself and your development.
Don’t wait for someone to tag you as a “potential leader.” Make your accomplishments and career goals known to your manager—and ask for support in learning new skills that can help you continue to achieve success.
(2) Demonstrate an understanding of the business.
To avoid being stereotyped as someone with “soft skills,” look for opportunities to tie your responsibilities to tangible business outcomes.
(3) Become an all-star communicator.
Invest in your public speaking, communication, and writing skills. These will help you sell others on your ideas, claim the credit you deserve, and negotiate.
(4) Give yourself permission to move on—without regret.
If you feel dismissed, disrespected, or unable to advance in your career, it’s time to find another organization. You deserve an equal opportunity to grow.
